Northrop Fry, the literary critic, adopts an archetypal approach in his study of literature. In his Anatomy of Criticism, Fry examines the archetypes, structures, and characters of tragedy in order to build up his theory of Tragedy Mythos. This theory seems to be applicable to two tragedies of Shāhnāme, named Sohrāb, and Forood. The element which can be seen in all tragedies, according to Fry, is the inherent conflict between two sources of power which has its origin in the nature of tragedy.
