“Birth of Hero” in Mythology

Authors

Abstract

The first stage in most mythological stories is the “Birth of Hero” which according to Mircea Eliade and Joseph Campbell is a symbolic reference to the “Womb of Earth” and verifies man’s desire to return to “Initial Womb” in order to be finally united with The Great Mother. The present study, by taking benefit of the psychological ideas of Sigmund Freud and Otto Rank as well as the mythological notions put forward by Raglan, Jung and Eliade tries to find the traces of this myth in folk tales. The findings of the study will help researchers to discover the themes and plots of many tales which conventionally make use of metaphysical elements
