Fertility rituals as primary mythical functions have their source in annual cycle of birth and death of Nature in which the god of fertility cyclically appears and disappears. The philosophy of this myth can be traced in the deep structure of many stories in Shāhnāme among which the narratives of Siāvash, Nowzar and Key Ghobād, the journey of Key Khosrow and Farangis to Siāvashgard, and the story of Bijhan and Manijhe can be named. In essence mythological deep structures of stories in Shāhnāme provide the reader with an effective material for critical reading.
